Frequently Asked Questions

🔹 Can we register horses that aren’t BLM mustangs?
At this time, only mustangs adopted through the BLM Forest Service or other recognized government programs with a freezemark or chip are eligible for registration. We plan to open additional registration pathways for other mustangs and "managed feral horse populations" in the future.

🔹 How is this organization different from others like ACMC or NAMAR?
IMHA is focused not only on horse registration but also on building a full-featured platform for mustangs beyond adoption.
That includes:
-
Approved shows,
-
Points,
-
Incentives, and awards tracking
-
Support for trainers and professionals
-
Carded Judges
-
Educational and community-building opportunities
We’re starting from the ground up in 2025 with a vision to become the premier mustang organization for long-term engagement and recognition.

🔹 If I’m already registered with another mustang association, can I still participate in IMHA?
Absolutely. IMHA registration is independent and does not conflict with other mustang associations.
We welcome participation from horses and owners who are part of ACMC, NAMAR, or any other organization—as long as your horse meets our eligibility requirements. You're welcome to register, show, and earn points with IMHA.
🔹 Can I show my horse in 2025?
Yes—but only at our one approved event this year.
Our first show will take place in October 2025 in Yamhill, Oregon. Horses must be registered with IMHA (Temporary or Sealed) to Earn points.

We encourage you to attend our debut appearance at the Teens & Oregon Mustangs adoption challenge in late August and early September. While horses won’t show there under IMHA, it’s a great opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate the launch of our organization.

🔹 Are the shows only in Oregon?
In 2025, yes. Our first and only approved show will be in Yamhill, Oregon. We plan to expand the show circuit beginning in 2026.

If you would like to host an approved IMHA show in 2026 we are welcoming show proposals. you must be a professional member to host. Simply send us an email with info on what the show might look like. We will offer feedback and work with you to make sure the show meets IMHA requirements. As this organization develops we will seek to formalize this process into simple forms.

🔹 Why should I become a member now if your organization is just getting started?
By joining in 2025, you’re not just becoming a member—you’re becoming a Founding Member of IMHA.
This is your chance to:
-
Help launch an organization committed to mustangs beyond adoption.
-
Be recognized as a Founding Member on your membership card and at future events.
-
Support the development of shows, incentives, and professional support programs.
Founding Member status is only available in 2025, so this is a unique opportunity to help build something meaningful from the ground up.
