Frequently Asked Questions

🔹 Can we register horses that aren’t BLM mustangs?
At this time, only mustangs adopted through the BLM, Forest Service or other recognized government programs with a freezemark or chip are eligible for registration. We plan to open additional registration pathways for other mustangs and "managed feral horse populations" in the future.

🔹 How is this organization different from others like ACMC or NAMAR?
IMHA is focused not only on horse registration but also on building a full-featured platform for mustangs beyond adoption.
That includes:
-
Approved shows,
-
Points,
-
Incentives, and awards tracking
-
Support for trainers and professionals
-
Carded Judges
-
Educational and community-building opportunities
We’re starting from the ground up in 2025 with a vision to become the premier mustang organization for long-term engagement and recognition.

🔹 If I’m already registered with another mustang association, can I still participate in IMHA?
Absolutely. IMHA registration is independent and does not conflict with other mustang associations.
We welcome participation from horses and owners who are part of ACMC, NAMAR, or any other organization—as long as your horse meets our eligibility requirements. You're welcome to register, show, and earn points with IMHA.
🔹 Can I show my horse in 2026?
Yes — We are excited too expand from our inaugural show in 2025 to producing a show series in 2026 with year end high point awards for both horses and exhibitors.
In 2026 we will alsoo be introducing the "Endorsed Show" option. That means IMHA will sanction or "endorse" a show so that Members and registered horses can earn points. There are a few hoops to jump through for show managment, but it opens the door for mustangs to show at more venues in a greater diversity of disciplines or oor show types.

🔹 Are the shows only in Oregon?
If you would like to host an approved/endorsed IMHA show in 2026 we are welcoming show proposals, and developing plans to expand opportunities. You must be a professional member to host. Simply send us an email with info on what the show might look like. We will offer feedback and work with you to make sure the show meets IMHA requirements. As this organization develops we are continuing to formalize this process.

🔹 Why should I become a member now if your organization is just getting started?
By joining in 2026 you are getting in on the early development of an organization that hopefully make history for mustangs.
This is your chance to:
-
Help launch an organization committed to mustangs beyond adoption.
-
Support the development of shows, incentives, and professional support programs.
-
Be a part of a community that is working to elevate mustangs in general.
